Pueblo State Fair Parking: A Guide to Maneuvering the Crowds

The annual Pueblo State Fair promises ten days of fun, food, and festivities. But with excitement comes the age-old question: where to park? Here’s a breakdown of some popular parking options near the fairgrounds, including the ones you requested:

Official Fairground Parking:

  • Pueblo State Fairgrounds Parking: The most convenient option is directly on the fairgrounds. Pay-and-park lots are located throughout the complex, offering easy access to all fairground attractions. Pricing and entry locations can vary depending on the year, so be sure to check the official Pueblo State Fair website closer to the event dates: https://coloradostatefair.com/

Free or Discounted Off-Site Parking with Shuttles:

  • Nogare Gym (Approx. 1.2 miles south of fairgrounds): Limited free parking might be available at Nogare Gym during the fair. However, information about designated parking areas and potential restrictions can be scarce. It’s best to call the Nogare Gym directly at (719) 544-7800 to confirm availability and any parking regulations in place during the State Fair.
  • Knights of Columbus Hall (Approx. 1.3 miles southwest of fairgrounds): Similar to Nogare Gym, there might be limited free parking at the Knights of Columbus Hall during the State Fair. Calling the Knights of Columbus Hall at (719) 544-7233 can help confirm availability and any parking restrictions.
  • Prairie Avenue Parking Lot (Approx. 1.5 miles east of fairgrounds): There’s a public parking lot located on Prairie Avenue, east of the fairgrounds. While not free, it might offer a more affordable option compared to on-site fairground parking. Information about pricing and availability during the State Fair can be scarce. It’s best to check with the City of Pueblo or look for signage at the lot entrance.

Important Note: These off-site parking locations with limited free options might fill up quickly during peak fair hours.

Alternative Options:

  • Ride Sharing: Pueblo has several ride-sharing services operating in the city. Consider using Uber, Lyft, or a taxi to avoid the hassle of parking altogether.
  • Public Transportation: The Pueblo Bus provides public transportation options within the city. While it might not take you directly to the fairground entrance, it could get you close enough to connect with a ride-sharing service or walk the remaining distance. Check the Pueblo Bus website (https://www.pueblo.us/492/Bus-Schedules) for route maps and fair-related schedule adjustments.

General Tips:

  • Arrive Early: Especially on weekends and during peak fair hours, parking fills up quickly. Arriving early increases your chances of snagging a spot close to the fairground entrance.
  • Consider Carpooling: Sharing the ride with friends or family can save money on parking and reduce the number of vehicles on the road.
  • Be Patient: Expect traffic congestion, especially during peak hours. Allow extra time for your commute and finding parking.

Stay Informed:

If you’re planning to visit the Pueblo State Fair, you’re probably wondering where on earth you’re going to park your car. Don’t fret! I’ve got the scoop on the best spots to stash your vehicle while you’re enjoying the fair.

I’ve been to the Pueblo State Fair more times than I can count, and I’ve learned a thing or two about navigating the parking situation. It’s not as daunting as it might seem, and with a little insider knowledge, you’ll be parking like a pro in no time. Stay tuned as I share my tips and tricks to make your fair parking experience a breeze.

Understanding the Parking Situation at Pueblo State Fair

As an yearly attendee of Pueblo State Fair, let me tell you – the fairgrounds can get packed! Thus kicking off what I affectionately call “The Great Parking Hunt”. I can’t stress enough how crucial it is to plan your parking game ahead of time. Not only will it save you oh-so-precious time but it’ll also prevent the onset of any pre-fair stress.

First off, there are several parking options around the Pueblo State Fairgrounds. On-site parking is Not available,  However there are parking options at the Midtown Shopping Center Midtown, then take a shuttle to the fairgrounds . Another option is the nearest to “onsite” parking, is the lot on the South end of the fair off  Acero & Northern which provides the obvious benefit of being closest to the action. However, keep in mind that it fills up pretty quick and can be a bit pricey.
There are shuttles that will save you the walk to the South Entrance.

Another viable option, especially when off-site parking reaches its full capacity. There are several nearby lots and parking in lots or driveways of nearby homes that offer parking at a lower rate (or sometimes even free). They are typically within walking distance of the fairgrounds .

If a bit of walking isn’t an issue for you, take advantage of the free street parking. Be warned though, it’s a bit of a walk and parking rules are strictly enforced. I have personally found this to be the best option when I visit later in the day when the on-site parking is full.

If you’re considering using a shuttle service, it’s worth noting that most require you to arrive early. As they say, “the early bird catches the worm”.

Once you’ve picked your choice, remember that every option is first-come-first-serve. Late comers often find themselves turning to off-site or even street parking, which we’ll discuss later. Keep in mind that all the prices mentioned are for one-time parking, there’s no in-out privilege in any of these given options.

Off-Site Parking Recommendations

Again, For those who don’t mind a bit of a walk, street parking around the fairgrounds is an option. While the spaces closer to the fairgrounds tend to fill up quickly, you might luck out and find a spot a few blocks away. It’s a good option to fall back on but remember to read the parking signs to avoid any fines! There is a Cowboy Church on Prairie, not far from the entrance, it is always an option, and like other affordable lots, fills up fast.

One final note on off-site parking: Safety first! Always pick well-lit and busy parking locations. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.

Tips for Stress-Free Parking at Pueblo State Fair

Alright, now we’ve covered some great off-site parking options, let’s talk about how you can have a smooth and stress-free parking experience at the Pueblo State Fair.

To start with, arrive early. That’s not only going to increase your chances of getting a spot in the closer lots, but also gives you time to enjoy the fair to the fullest. There’s nothing worse than rushing around, worried about missing the rodeo or your favorite band because you’re trying to find parking.

Secondly, have some cash on hand. While some parking lots accept cards, others might be cash-only. It’s always better to be prepared. Keep a few bills in small denominations for unexpected parking fees or for a quick snack on the go, FYI  sadly, with all costs rising, gone are the days that a $20 dollar bill would suffice for a full day of fun at the Colorado State Fair.

Additionally, keep a close eye on signage. The local authorities and fair management often put up signs addition to the regular parking regulations during special events. These signs might indicate restrictions, available off-site parking, shuttle pick up spots, or temporary no parking zones. Save yourself a potential ticket (or tow!) and read all signs thoroughly.

If you’re planning to take advantage of the free shuttle service – brilliant move! Shuttles are your secret weapon for stress-free parking. They’ll drop you off right at the entrance, and you won’t have to worry about remembering where you’ve parked amongst all those cars.

If you have decided to park further away and walk, ensure to check the map and plan your route. Walking can be a great way to explore Pueblo and get some exercise, but you don’t want to end up getting lost. Plus, Pueblo’s streets can get pretty packed during the fair; knowing your way around will indeed help.

Lastly, remember, patience is key. Sure, the parking scenario might be a bit chaotic with so many people flocking to the fair, but don’t let that ruin your day. Everyone’s here to have a good time, so let’s keep the mood light and festive!

Conclusion

So there you have it! Arriving early and cash in the pocket can make all the difference at the Pueblo State Fair. Don’t forget to keep an eye out for those signs and take advantage of the free shuttles. With a little planning and patience, you’ll navigate the parking situation like a pro. Remember it’s all part of the adventure. After all, the fair’s bustling atmosphere begins right from its parking lots. So embrace it, and let the fun of the fair start the moment you park your car. Enjoy the Pueblo State Fair to the fullest!
